Keith London, Founder, CEO & Exec. Producer, Defined Mind, Inc.

An award-winning educator, Keith London has been a mentor and student advocate for nearly 20 years. Dedicated to literacy development, he has supported The Partnership for After School Education as an English Language Arts teaching facilitator, the Rhinelander Children's Center as a Board Member, and most recently, the Children's Aid Society as a Program Sponsor and Education Adviser. Mr. London has received some of the highest honors in academic publishing: in 2006 he received the Association of Educational Publishers' Golden Lamp Award for his English literacy text "Vocabulary Accelerator," and in 2007 he received the AOL@School Technology Leadership Award for DM Online, Defined Mind's Web based educational platform. Also a highly regarded professional development instructor, Mr. London has worked with the New York City Board of Eduction, The School District of Palm Beach County, the Florida Council of Language Arts Supervisors, and other educational institutions.

His diverse published works range from treatise on environmental issues to tort reform, giving him uniquely broad qualifications as an author and as an active observer of the English Language. Also a musician and a lifelong lover of music, his tastes include styles from hip-hop to heavy metal to classical to Bollywood, enabling him to bring an encyclopedic knowledge of musical genres to Defined Mind's work, ensuring its diversity and creativity. Mr. London's Vocabulary Accelerator has been enthusiastically received by the public, and it has been praised as ground-breaking and academically rigorous by institutions as vaunted as Harvard University and Columbia University's Teachers College. Mr. London has also served as a Judge for the AEP's Distinguished Achievement Awards and the Golden Lamp Awards. Mr. London received his B.A. in Psychology at The State University of New York at Stony Brook, and his M.B.A. at Columbia University's Graduate School of Business.

 

Charles Youngs, M.A., Editor & Consulting Educator

Mr. Youngs arrives at Defined Mind via the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and his professional service as a Pearson Education/Prentice Hall Master Teacher National Advisory Board Member. A professional English educator with 16 years of experience teaching in the classroom, Mr. Youngs received earned his credentials at New York University and Oxford University. Without hyperbole, he is a genuinely dedicated and tireless educator, and over the course of almost two decades, he has been an advisor to countless student organizations, served an Executive Board Member of the Pennsylvania School Press Association, founded and Chaired the Pennsylvania Drama Education Exchange, edited texts for the world's largest academic publisher, and presented well regarded workshops at each of the past two NCTE national conferences, with another in development for this year. We greatly appreciate the remarkable dedication, experience and perspective that Mr. Youngs brings to Defined Mind, and we consider ourselves privileged that his energies are also committed to certifying and safeguarding the academic rigor and practicality of our work.

 

Rebecca Osleeb

Ms. Osleeb is a dedicated educator teaching 7th and 8th grade English classes at John S. Roberts Educational Complex (JHS 45) in New York City. In addition to writing with Defined Mind and coaching the school’s Girls Basketball Club, she is focused on practical applications of Balanced Literacy methods. Working in conjunction with Columbia University’s Teachers’ College and Bank Street College on New York City’s Upper West Side, her efforts are focused on developing and implementing successful, practical applications of the Balanced Literacy approach in the City’s schools. Specializing in hands-on and cooperative learning, Ms. Osleeb has also taught 11th and 12th grade Creative Writing and Journalism classes, implementing state technology standards in the classroom.
